I TOLD YOU SO
Near Basra, Iraq: British military interrogators claim captured Iraqi soldiers have told them that al-Qaeda terrorists are fighting on the side of Saddam Hussein's forces against allied troops near Basra. At least a dozen members of Osama bin Laden's network are in the town of Az Zubayr where they are coordinating grenade and gun attacks on coalition positions, according to the Iraqi prisoners of war.

I can see both the pro and anti-war crowd putting a spin on this discovery to say "I TOLD YOU SO"

Kashei: quotes James Taranto at Opinion Journal who says with sacrasm Impossible! Don't these al Qaeda guys know that they're Islamic fundamentalists and Saddam is secular? How could they join forces in the face of such basic philosophical disagreements? Why Saddam and al Qaeda are enemies! We heard it from Osama bin Laden himself. Say it ain't so, Osama!

Using a reverse spin one can also say: I told you this war would make two enemies work together against a most hated common enemy. If Al-Queda and Saddam Hussein weren't working together before they definatly are now. What kind of a person joins Al-Queda in the first place....Bingo, the same kind of person that would be drawn to fight the Western Infidel invasion of Iraq. It is no suprise that Al-Queda are fighting with the Iraqi's against the Coalition. But this teamwork is the result of the war more than it is a reason for the war.

I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

A great email I got today

We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA. Read this excerpt from a Romanian newspaper. The article was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title, "C"ntarea Americii meaning "Ode to America") on September 24, 2002, in the Romanian newspaper, Evenimentul zilei ("The Daily Event" or "News of the Day").

An Ode to America

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs.

Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, and the secret services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing. On every occasion they started singing their traditional song: "God Bless America!"

I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy. What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their galloping history? Their economic power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace.

I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion... Only freedom can work such miracles!

WEIRD NEWS

U.F.O. Unlucky Feline Overhead -------------- LARDAL, Norway - Many people reported seeing a fireball ex- plode in the night sky and then fall slowly down to earth. Unsure of what they were watching, several witnesses pani- cked and called police, believing it to be a fallen alien spaceship. As it turns out, what was thought to be an un- identified flying object was actually an electrocuted cat. Investigators solved the otherworldly mystery when they found the charred body of a cat at the base of an elect- rical mast. They believe the unlucky feline used up all nine lives after it climbed up the pole and touched a li- vewire. As police spokesperson Lars Helge Sogn told a Nor- wegian newspaper, what the people were watching was the cat exploding and falling off the mast. The people were shocked by what they saw, but certainly not as much as the cat.

ENGLAND - Harry is a 16-year-old performing hawk who performs stunts at local displays and events. However, the bird managed to get himself in a heap of trouble after retrieving the wrong object during a countryside show. Harry was supposed to be ch- asing a dummy rabbit made out of wool, but instead came back with an audience member's toupee. Thinking the rug was danger- ous to more than just its owner's image, the hawk immediately began attacking it with his beak. The crowd roared with laugh- ter, but the wig's red-faced owner wasn't all too pleased. As a result, Harry has been grounded and retired from public ev- ents. He will now spend a year on a breeding program. On the bright side, Harry may have inspired many single ladies to pick up a hawk of their own.

Stupid signs for STUPID people!!
I am sure our troops feel real good (sarcasm) knowing they are getting this kind of support back home. This gets me too pissed of to even write about.

I have been extremely dissapointed by the news medias poor and innacurate war reporting on Iraq. It seems someone else shares my sentiment.

Did ya catch the 'news' today oh boy? Ya know that chemical plant they found over there in Iraq? No evidence of chem/bio found!! Are they spewing that little fact on FAUX NEWS every 5 minutes like they were when they thought they'd found the smoking gun? How about the 'hospital' where they found 3000 chemical weapons suits and the anti-nerve gas vaccines? Why is MSNBC calling it a military hospital and FAUX calling it just a hospital? W*y do we get a count of 3000 chemical weapons suits and yet only told "a supply of atropine"? How big a supply of atropine exactly? I'm not saying Saddam doesn't have this crap (WMD's) and that he wouldn't use 'em...but come on!! Despite whether it was a hospital or a military hospital or a trench.... w*y is it so sinister for a hospital in a country where these weapons have been used to kill people to have this sort of stuff?? Could it just be corporate media spin? Justification...the smoking gun they need to justify killing people so the corporate media and the blueblooded stockholders can make some more $$ off of killing our soldiers and the Iraqi people? Think about it.

Here is an interesting Article on media on Bush administration spin doctoring about Iraq's "alleged" WMD program.

U.S. Arms Sales to Israel End Up In China, Iraq
there is another aspect of the American-Israeli relationship that may have an even greater impact on U.S. and Israeli security in the long run: the ongoing transfer of American arms technology from Israel to potential U.S. (and Israeli) adversaries around the globe.

I think it's crazy that this sort of stuff is happening.

Pick on the French time - again

London: The train was very crowded, so the soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat. The only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well-dressed middle-aged French lady and was being used by her little dog. The war weary soldier asked, "Please, ma'am, may I sit in that seat?" The French woman looked down her nose at the soldier, sniffed and said, "You Americans. You are such a rude class of people. Can't you see my Little Fifi is using that seat?"

The soldier walked away, determined to find a place to rest, but after another trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog. Again he asked, "Please, lady. May I sit there? I'm very tired."

The French woman wrinkled her nose and snorted, "You Americans! Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant. Imagine!

The soldier didn't say anything else; he leaned over, picked up the little dog, tossed it out the window of the train and sat down in the empty seat.

The woman shrieked and wailed, and demanded that someone defend her and chastise the soldier.

An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, "You know, sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window.

Why are they fighting us?

One stated purpose of the war with Iraq is to free the Iraqi people from Saddam's tyranny. Yet, for every report we hear of thankful Iraqi's welcoming Coalition Forces we hear a report of Iraqi's opposing our forces. This sucks. I like seeing pictures of Iraqi's tearing down pictures of Saddam in celebration instead of fighting the Coaltion forces or looking at them with scorn.
The reason why they are fighting us are complicated and on multiple levels...Social, Political, Religious, Economic.
I briefly will try to explain why Iraqis are fighting us.

1. The Loyalist.
These are the Iraqi elites. Most are members of the ruling Baath Party. Some have close and personal ties to Saddam Hussein, thousands of others benefit from Saddam being in power. The status quo has benefited them, they have the most to lose if the coaltion defeats Iraq. They also have first hand knowledge of what Saddam does to traitors. This is why they fight.

2. The Cultist.
Saddam Hussein has cultivated his image into a gargantuan Cult of Personality. Iraqi people have been indoctrinated for years of a bigger than life, godlike Saddam. He has tried to make himself synonomous with Iraq, to represent the glory and history of the Iraqi people. Saddam is their Protector, Saddam is their Father figure, Saddam is thier Leader. Years of this kind of brain washing has had it's effect. Like all successful cult leaders, Saddam has followers that will do anything for him. This is why they fight.

3. The Patriot.
Some of these harbor no love for Saddam, others are indifferent towards Saddam's regime, but they will all fight to defend Iraq from what they see as invasion from outsiders. They feel Iraq is a soverieign nation and they will fight to defend it against outsiders. They may see the outsiders as imperialist, or hungry for Iraq's oil. Simple pride is reason enough for them to fight. They have grown used to living under Saddam's tyranny and are afraid of change. When these people see Coalition bombs hitting civilians and causing problems for Iraqi people they are not happy. When they see thier country being invaded by westerners and see Iraqis surrendering to westerners they feel ashamed and humiliated. This is why they fight.

4. The Religious Zealot.
These are people who want Islam to defeat the infidels. Luckily Iraq is not full of these kind of people but there are some and the number is growing. A fringe group of these are in Northern Iraq but they are not part of Saddam's Regime or even Iraqi's.

5. Forced to Fight.
I have been hearing news reports that Saddam's thugs have been forcing Iraqi's to fight under the penalty of death to them and thier families. This is very sad and horrific. I feel sorry for them, they are really caught between a rock and a hard place.

The upside to this is that the number of people in Iraq welcoming the Coalition far out numbers the ones fighting the Coalition.

Dear Rodney
Highly entertaining. You may not want to open it at work, it's a little risque. You also need sound.

Did Iraq have SCUDS?
It has been posted on some Blogs and other places that Iraq fired SCUD Missiles. Is it true?
SCUD missiles are a banned weapon and Iraq has claimed they don't posses any SCUD missiles. If they fired some then it is clear proof that Iraq has and is hiding banned weapons. The only info I could find was that Iraq fired some missiles in the first few days of the war and that one of them may have been a SCUD. This was later dissproved and the US govt. has said it wasn't a SCUD.
Is there other info I am missing? If you know about Iraq firing or having SCUDS please let me know and provide a link if possible.

These guys have the Best Job in the Iraqi Navy
Talk about being at the right place at the right time. What a sweet life, a typical day...sleep in, raise the Iraqi flag. Go to the beach and enjoy the Riviera sun. Go to an italian cafe and sip expresso, chat up some fine Italian Ladies. Lower the Iraqi flag, go to a bistro for dinner, hit a night club, go to sleep.

Human Shields changing thier minds after traveling to Iraq and speaking with Iraqis
I was a naive fool to be a human shield for Saddam

More human shields see the light or in this case the dark.

A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler.

US soldier grenade attack on other US soldiers
When the first news reports of this story broke it was originally thought enemy forces had attacked. I don't like how the news was reporting it as a "terrorist attack" and it was done by "terrorist".
I got NEWS for the news people. THIS IS WAR, the soldiers at Camp Pennsylvania are there enemy. Our solders are trying to kill them and vice/versa they are trying to kill our soldiers. That is what war is!!
I completly disagree with the double standard of calling their forces terrorist when it was an attack on our soldiers (not civilians) who are there to fight them.

This is a neat artificial intelligence game.
I did Koala and it guessed it after 27 questions. So I won!!

Optimus Prime heading to Middle East
More than meets the Eye
"I got a letter from a general at the Pentagon when the name change went through and he says it was great to have the employ of the commander of the Autobots in the National Guard."

Critisism of Bush

I CAN critisize Bush's handling of Iraq and still be pro-war. I don't like how right-wingers have simplified things to a point that you have to be 100 percent behind Bush or you are against him, you are anti-war and part of the liberal left.
I AM PRO-WAR yet I think Bush should have done a much better job in how he has handled this. He should have taken a lesson from his Father and used diplomacy to gain support instead of trying to bully and buy support. Now we are left more islolated than we needed to be and have hurt our standing in the international community when we had an opportunity to improve our power and influence. Oh well, atleast we have a President who has the conviction to do what is right.

Fisher-Price Wins Florida Ballot Design Contract
From Chortler.com

The Florida Elections Commission has awarded Fisher-Price a contract to develop a less confusing balloting system for the state in the run-up to November's midterm elections.

Fearing a repeat of 2000’s "dimpled chad" recount fiasco and the recent confusion during the state’s primary elections, Florida officials asked both Fisher-Price and Playskool to submit proposals on how they would eliminate the guesswork from the voting process.

Playskool’s plan was based upon its popular Poundin’ Bedbugs toy. This system, however, in which a vote would be cast by pounding the plastic head of the candidate of choice with a small hammer, was rejected on the grounds that it would be far too complex for most Florida voters.

Fisher-Price, meanwhile, countered with a proposal based upon it classic See ‘n Say series.

"It's really quite simple," spokeswoman Liz Holden explained. "All you have to do is turn the pointer towards the candidate of your choice and cast your vote by pulling the string. Then the voice of the candidate comes on and says, for example, "Al Gore says, 'You have voted for me.'"

"Preliminary tests using kindergarten children have been quite promising," Holden went on to say, adding that Fisher-Price will next test the system on the Early Bird Special crowd at a Palm Beach Denny's.

Black People Love us
Does any one think Sally and Johnny are serious or is it a joke?
I think it's brilliant.

Do we have a new strategy?
We all knew the time would come, it was inevitable. We have feared it for a long time, the world has treaties and bans to try to stop it from happening but it was inevitable. The era in history when third rate powers would be capable of producing an atomic bomb has arrived. A couple of years ago this concern was always in the back of our minds. A sort of nagging fear that was easier and less scary not to think about. I always knew the US government would eventually be forced to come face to face with the facts. It has happened sooner rather than later when September 11th happened and people woke up. George Bush has taken that responsibility to do something now rather than wait for a festering wound to get worse.

The United States harnessed the power of the atom almost 60 years ago, it was only a matter of time before others caught up. Soon the nuclear capable club grew to a few technological advanced nations, more time passed and second rate powers India and Pakistan joined the gang. The third rate powers of the world weren't far behind. It is these third rate nations that are the scariest, they are ruled by dictators and villain's, blackmailers and lunatics.

The United States doesn't run it's foreign policy by the seat of the pants. We prioritize and formulate a strategy and then operate foreign policy with the strategy in mind. From the actions of the current administration it is clear that a new strategy has formed and American foreign policy has this vision in mind. Stopping the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction from getting into the hands of third rate nations and terrorist has become that vision. This is why Bush named, Iraq, Iran and North Korea "The Axis of Evil". It's because those three nations are not only evil but they are the most threatening because of their weapons of mass destruction ambition.

This is strictly my theory on the direction our foreign policy is heading and I believe it's the underlying grand strategy behind the current war with Iraq. The State Department will probably issue an annual report on the Presidents foreign policy initiative and I will know if I am right or not. That's what great about America, the public disclosure our government gives us, unless it's classified for national security reasons they let us know what they are up to.

Why I love America
Last night I went to a neighborhood bar with some co-workers to celebrate St. Patricks Day. The bar was very festive for the occasion with bagpipe players and a good time was had by all. An English guy I work with recently transfered here (Jersey City) from the London office. I asked him if St. Patricks day was a big deal in London. He said only for the Irish, who would all go to the pub, the English people would stay home and it would be like any other day. After he told me this, I looked around the bar and saw people of different race, ethnicity, religion and background all together, celebrating St. Patricks Day American style. At that moment I knew why I loved America. It was a wonderful feeling to see an American Flag hanging from the end of a bagpipe as it played Amazing Grace.

I stayed in a Paris youth hostel a few years ago while I was traveling in Europe. While there I met some Scandanavians who had a condescending, arrogant attitude toward America. Even though they had never been to America they none the less really enjoyed talking about all the negatives things they could think of about America. They went on about race relations, crime, the people on Jerry Springer...After they were done I said, America may not be perfect but atleast we are willing to do what your country would never dream of doing, what your counties are afraid of doing. America has welcomed all religions, all races, all creeds, all ethnicities and we have come together to build the most powerful nations on Earth. How can you put America down for having some race relations problems when your country won't even let other races in? The day your country becomes a melting pot and does it better than America, then maybe i would give a crap about your snobby opinion.

All around the world ethnic, religious and racial violence is flaring. It happens everywhere. Northern Ireland, East Timor, Kashmir, Cyprus, at Genocidal levels in Africa. Then there are the Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Armenians, Azerbajanians, Albanians, Tibetans, Israeli, Palestinean....The list goes on and on and on and on. In so many places not even two groups of people can live together or even side by side. Yet America is a vast melting pot AND a multicultural paradise, the USA has successfully become both of these things. Not only has America done it better than any other nation, we became the most powerful nation in the world.

Thursday, March 13, 2003

Kashei at Alarming News asked for someone to give her a good argument from the left against the war. Kashei is very right wing. Here was my response:

I will not make an argument from the left (as requested by Kashei) because the anti-war arguments that I find merrit in are simply anti-war arguments. They do not belong to the left or the right they are just arguments. Why must everything on this site be all about Left and Right? Why can't an argument just be an argument?

Here are some of the anti-war arguments that I weight everyday against the pro-war arguments.

1. The Fear Factor, If we attack Iraq, will thier be terrorist retaliation? Will terrorist attacks that may not have happened otherwise happen?

2. One major reason I would want to attack Iraq is to prevent him from giving bio/chem weapons to groups outside Iraq. The problem is he could have already given that stuff away. Ever wonder why we can't find the stuff?? Maybe it's because he has already given it to some Jihadi terrorists who are now living in the USA waiting for the signal.

I also want to stop him from getting Nuclear weapons but that can be accomplished with the weapons inspections. So basically we are too late to stop him from hurting us with Chem/Bio weapons and it's not neccessary to invade to stop him from getting nuclear weapons.

3. War is unpredictable, especially when taking on a pychopath dictator. If everything goes badly and Saddam unleashes his WMD within Iraqi cities and against Isreal, Kuwait, Turkey and anywhere else allied forces are, millions of people could die horrible deaths. I don't want America to have any part in that.
Of course many will argue, in an attempt to absolve themselves from any guilt, that it was Saddam who killed those people not us. However true this may be it won't bring millions of dead people back to life.

5. Public and international support.. do we have enough?

Should morality guide America's foreign policy and the use of military intervention?
Many in the anti-war camp probably believe morality is a reason for not going to war. I counter this and say morality is a reason for war.
Consider these questions that will shape America's future foreign policy.
Should America get involved militarily in another country to protect people from atrocities commited on a mass scale?
Should America be the worlds policeman?

In an ideal world the UN would be the worlds policeman but in this imperfect world we all share, the UN is pathetically incapable of this duty. America is the only nation capable of policing the world. Like Spiderman's Uncle said, "with great power comes great responsibity". Is it America's responsibility to help those who need help?

If you say "yes" then you must also believe it is morally unaccectable for the United States and the world for that matter, to sit back and let Saddam Hussein rule Iraq.
If there is such thing as a just war, then a war to remove a genocidal dictator who has ruled as cruelly and sadistically as Saddam Hussein is the defintion of a just war.
The call to intervene against Saddam for moral reasons is not new, it is not something that has been drummed up in the last few month's to gain support for a war. We have been morally intervening in Iraq for the last 12 years. The No Fly Zones in Northern and Southern Iraq are there for moral reasons, to protect Iraqi's from Saddams persecution.

America is the reluctant policeman, we are too isolationist to get involved in other people's problems and we rarely do unless it's in our national interests. Occasianally we are pulled into a moral war, such as the two US led interventions in the Balkans and our parlay into Somalia.

My question to you is, should the USA fight moral wars against atrocity and be the world's policeman?

Something is definately wrong here
An Egyptian radical will get $27 million as a reward for giving the United States information that led authorities to alleged September 11, 2001, mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.
The sources, confirming a story previously reported in a British paper and in Newsweek, said the unnamed Egyptian was captured during a raid in Quetta, Pakistan, last month. The Egyptian was described as an al Qaeda foot soldier. FULL ARTICLE

So this al Qaeda terrorist gets captured by the good guys and as punishment he gets a $27 million pay day?!? Just for giving information leading to his terrorist comrades. Does this seem right to you? If he were an Afgani Taliban foot soldier it would be a different story and I wouldn't be as outraged. The BIG difference is this guy was a radical Egyption Al Qaeda member, captured in Pakistan. He should be undergoing aggressive interogation instead of getting ready for his appearance on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

Someone found this website doing a search for: live pterodactyl germany. Wierd.... Do you think the Germans have a live... naaahhhh, that's would be cool though.

Some of you may have noticed, especially my few regular readers, that I spell a lot of words wrong. I notice most of them but i don't bother fixing the mistakes on purpose. See there are others out there, doing searches on the web who will make the same spelling errors I do. And when they do...BINGO my website will be an exact match. And all the hundreds of suckers who spelled stuff right will be lost in the masses of obsurity.

The peace demonstrators just doing their thang, that thang is called vandalism to a memorial that meant something to true Americans.

They trashed 87 flags, ripped 11 memorial tiles made by myself and my children out of the ground and glued the Bob Dylan song to a sign that said, 'America, land of the brave, home of the free'.

The anti-war movement is playing right into Saddam's hands.

The anti-war crowd is sending two messages. The message they mean to send is that war is never the answer. The other message they are sending, the one that really matters in this high stakes game of life and death, is the one Saddam hears. Saddam is hearing it loud and clear everytime he watches the news and sees millions of demonstrators in the USA and abroad protecting him. He knows world opinion holds power, he knows the only chance to stop the mighty US military is if the US bows down to the anti-war pressure. To a psychotic sadistic dictator the message is to inflict horrific, genocidal casualties by any means neccessary if he is attacked. He will devestate his own country, his own civilain population, and neighboring countries. He will set fire to all his oil wells, unleash his hidden chemical and biological weapons and put a poison cloud over Iraq. He will dress his most loyal soldiers in American uniforms and have them massacre Iraqi civilians.

Why would he do such horrible things you ask? He will do it because when the news footage of the devestation is broadcast in living rooms across the world, there will be an outcry to stop the war immediately. The longer Saddam Hussein can prolong a war and increase the suffering the louder the outcry will grow. World opinion will turn against the USA and the more likely it becomes the USA will back down, call off the troops and Saddam will remain in power.
This is the gamble only a sadistic monster would take but I have no doubt Saddam is a sadistic monster and will not hesitate.
So these millions of so called peace demonstrators, this is the message you are really sending. You are encouraging a madman to commit mass slaughter.

I have my reservations about going to war but I would never publicly demonstrate against it. Because I know the only result of my joining the demonstrators is boosting Saddams confidence and encouraging a brutal dictator.

So as I predicted earlier most of the human shields have run away at the first sign of danger. Oh my, what a SHOCK it must have been to find out Uncle Saddam doesn't really want you stationed at hospitals and civilian locations. Oh my, what a SHOCK that Saddam is trying to force you to protect strategic installations. Oh my, what a SHOCK to find out Saddam doesn't care about his civilians and has been using you as a Public Relations stunt. Now that he is finished using you for the PR, it's time for you to become fodder for a non civilain strategic installation.
All expense paid vacation is over boys and girls. By cuddling up to Saddam, enjoying his "hospitallity" and letting him use you, you are a disgrace to the real Iraqi people. Salam in Baghdad agrees, he wants these Human Shield Tourist 'OUTOUTOUT'

It made me wonder about how the new WTC site will be completely different from how it used to be. Before 9-11 it was a lively festive place. During my lunch I would often sit in the outdoor plaza between the towers and enjoy the sun, the flowers growing, and the festive music of a live band that played free concerts almost everyday during the spring and summer. Food vendors would be selling hot dogs and pretzels, tourist would be snapping pictures and gawking up at the towers. It was a fun place to be, and a nice escape from sitting in front of a computer at my office.
The new WTC site will be a somber, emotional, reflective place. They will rebuild but the mood there will be forever changed.

Instead of making arguments that have substance, the anti-war crowd has come up with another brilliant strategy. So much fluff so little rational thought. I wish the masses of the anti-war crowd would try to educate themselves instead of walking around like sheep blindly sticking to the War is bad, peace is good logic. Duh. The people who are pushing us to war don't think otherwise.

Somethings gone terribly amuck T-shirt article
The Best Part is he bought the shirt at that Mall!!
Here's an Article about the local reaction.
I would join this mall march not because i am with the anti-war protestors but because the Mall has acted so stupidly it's emabarrassing.
The Police should have used some common sence.
I won't be suprised if this ends up at the Supreme Court in a case revolving around what "private property" means in a "public place" and public place discrimination.

This isn't Iran, Norway or France we don't have culture police telling us what we can wear, what we can name our kids, or what language movies and songs we can listen to are in. Let's keep it that way.

The Pandavox (FULL ARTICLE) writes about the Not in My Name Crowd:
It also made me wonder how the anti-war crowd will feel after the war is over. I have no doubt that by this time next year, Saddam will be dead and the nation of Iraq will be free and democratic. Will the anti-war set be bitter about this? Will they long for the good old days when Saddam ruled with an iron fist and dissent "disappeared?" What will happen to all those nifty "blood for oil" slogans when they realize the American money spent on Iraqi oil is lining the pockets of (shock! shock!) Iraqi businesses and workers?
I, for one, am looking forward to those days. And if people want to chant slogans while defending a sitting tyrant (and no, George Bush doesn't count -- I know it sounded cute the first couple of hundred times you shouted it), I say to them: not in my name.

NOT IN MY NAME EITHER!! I saw a similar guy at a subway station, going on about how America deserved what happend on September 11th. I'm glad he is in the minority, especially in this city (new york).

In a partially related stream of thought ( I don't feel like creating a new post) the pro-war crowd including at times myself, have used the argument that the Iraqi people are living a tortured existence under the boot of tryany and therfore should be liberated by a war. I have reflected on this statement. It is true that the Iraqi's live oppressed lives with no political freedom under a dictatorship. But many Iraqis have become content enough with the status quo to quietly live under tyranny and go about their lives.
Just because you live under a dictatorship does not mean your life is Hell. As long as you don't speak against the government the government probably won't not mess with you (torture then kill you).

Some people can live happily under dictatorship, like a benevolent dictatorship. I am in no way saying Saddam Hussein is a benevolent dictator but as long as you don't do anything against him, you could probably live a decent life. If the liberation of Iraq may cause thousands or more of innocent Iraqi civilains to die, then I can see how many Iraqi's are worried and may not be exactly looking foward to a war. This is a major reason other arab people don't want a war. Many in the Arab world and around the world believe Iraqi's are better off living under Saddam than dead. I think most Iraqi's would love to see their country liberated but at the same time self-preservation and the safety of thier loved ones is probably even more important. Salam in Baghdad has got me thinking about this more and more.

Of course there a plenty of Iraqi's currently imprissoned, being tortured or on the run that are really really hoping for a war today and not tommorow. But the ordinary Iraqi probably wouldn't mind no war and having the sanctions lifted so they can go about thier every day lives with more stuff. I wish they would overthrow Saddam themselves in a bloodless coup. But Saddam has been very efficient in purging the slightest glimmer of opposition before if starts. Rule by fear.

Mass civilian casualties does have meaning, even if these casualties are self inflicted by Saddam Hussein during a war. They would not have happened if there was no war at all.

Just trying to give the pro-war camp some prespective they might be trying to ignore.
